I’ve got a bit of tame rage going on right now.

We saw this happen when Amy died, and now with Whitters (I’m going to call her that because it sounds nice and cute.)

People are fucking fickle. And shit. When a musician is alive and has a publicised addiction (drugs, alcohol, kicking…

Her voice made me think of Britney when I first heard this! She also reminds me of Marina too - I think I like it ^_^

i-love-lana-del-rey:

Lana Del Rey - Video Games (Live Lounge With Zane Lowe)

I’m currently loving Lana Del Rey. A lot of people seem to really dislike her for various reasons. From what I’ve read these reasons include her being too manufactured but still trying to maintain an ‘indie’ image. indie schmindie. I think she’s awesome and her songs really speak to me on different levels. Does she write her own songs? I don’t know. But I don’t think I really care either way. I haven’t been this excited about an album for a long time so that’s gotta count for something. I hope it’s not a disappointment, and I’m sure it won’t be.

Above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.

Turning 22…

Posted on Jan 26, 2012 at 4PM permalink

Last friday I turned 22, so I thought I’d write a summary of how my 21st year went.

I turned 21 and I was working part time for a frozen yoghurt kiosk, around my birthday (I can’t remember if it was before/after) they let me go due to having too many staff. That sucked as I loved working there and also I needed a new job! LAME

Evenutally I landed a job at Primark a few months later, which to be totally honest is actually one of the best jobs I’ve had, in terms of having part time/stop gap kinda job. It’s easy peasy and the management are pretty good so no complaints there.

It is however pretty boring to work there all the time and I decided I really needed to get off my chubby butt and do something. I was really missing doing what I loved so I investigated various music industry degrees. Long story short I am now studying Music Business at ACM, which is awesome!

So this year I’ve learnt all manner of things.

I have learnt;

What actual, REAL hard work is. As long as you love what you are doing, the hard work is awesome and oh so satisfying.

How to actually take care of myself. mentally, physically, emotionally.

You can NOT rely on scoring a lucky break, winning the lottery or any other pipedreams. These things can happen but chances are they won’t. Don’t rely on luck to get you through life. You’ve just got to get in with stuff instead of waiting for your chance. It won’t just come along, make it yourself!

To appreciate everything I have. I consider myself extremely lucky when I consider the great things I have around me. Mostly people, some things too.

To take pride in whatever I do. Take pride and it shows.

How to ask for help when I need it. And that there is no shame in this.

How to take control of my life. For the better.

To realise how awesome my family really can be.

Obviously I haven’t totally learnt all of this, most of this I consider to be ongoing self development and learning.

Highlights of my year!

* Getting a place on my course. Best thing last year.

* Starting my course. Actually that’s probably the best thing.

* Going to Reading Festival (for free may I add)

* Moving to an amazing new house that isn’t covered in mould and has a bath and garden! (it’s the little things that count)

* Summer of parties and nights out and generally hanging out with my fabulous friends

* This year has been way more financially stable than the previous year. Phew.

* Discovering some wicked music - Cocknbullkid, Ghost Poet, Feist, Skrillex, to name a few :)

Ok this post has been very long but it kinda makes up for my lack of posting for the last three months! Here’s to my 22nd year!

Peace & Love xxx

Haven’t posted in a while, have been so busy with my new course! However the busyness has paid off as I found out last week that for my first set of assignments I scored three 1.1’s and 2.1 :) :)

Hope to start posting again more regularly in the next week or so!

Back to School / Embracing change

Posted on Oct 1, 2011 at 2PM permalink

I have recently discovered the genius of RSS feeds. Having started a BA (hons) in Music Business, the lecturers are very keen for us to keep up to date with not just the music industry, but also technology, social media and business. They recommend we use RSS feeds to keep up to date. I am hooked! Since I have also recently invested in a smart phone (HTC Cha Cha if you must know) I can also keep up with the news wherever I am. Technology is pretty cool.

College is fantastic, I’m just getting back into the routine of learning, studying and absorbing & retaining information - my brain is on overdrive! But I’m absolutely loving it, I am consuming so much information!

I’ve been trying to eat lot’s of brain food to improve my mental agility. Also been learning to play chess.

Does there come a point though where we have to withdraw from all this consumption of information? Do our brains just get overloaded? We’ll see. I seem to spend most of my time learning at the moment - reading a book, in a lecture, watching some form of documentary, reading the newspaper, checking my feeds, checking facebook.

In our first lecture, our lecturer showed us a vid  [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cL9Wu2kWwSY&feature=fvsr ]

It is a little out of date I think now, but it’s still startling and really makes you think about how much information we consume on a daily basis. Without wishing to spoil it, one of the facts in the video states that the information, news & current affairs that we read in one weeks worth of the New York Times is more than the amount of information an average 17th century person would have come across in their lifetime. Crazy no?

The point in showing us the video was to make us realise how much is changing. New technologies are emerging everyday. If we want to stand out in the jobs market we have to be two steps ahead of change. We have to embrace change and have it work to our advantage. Otherwise we can easily fall behind. This perspective is not just limited to the music industry, but whatever industry you are working in or have an interest in.
